ai Design Group took home the prize for Best Use of Labels at CANstruction 2016 with our entry “Wave Hunger Goodbye.”
Held during Architecture Month each year by AIA chapters across the country, CANstruction invites local architecture, engineering and construction firms to create designs made from food cans as part of a friendly competition that raises donations for the Second Harvest Food Bank. This year, ai Design Group’s entry celebrated Charlotte’s place on the “Road to Rio” with a tribute to the U.S. National Whitewater Center where the U.S. Olympic team trials for canoe-kayak race events took place in April.
Many thanks to our partners on the project: Dawn Van Dyke with Shaw Contract Group who contributed the carpet tiles for our water-inspired base, and Tony Eberly of New Wave Acrylics who donated time on their CNC router to create the skeleton of the sculpture. We appreciate your support for this great cause. Shout out to our Team Captain John Ellis and team member Derek Weidner for the time lapse video of the day’s build!
